What is the Collaborative Law Process?
Collaborative law is a developing area of the law that offers an alternative to resolve your family law dispute in front of a judge. It can be less expensive and more efficient in resolving your disputes in a timely matter as well as allowing you to keep your private matters out of the courtroom. Both parties must agree to engage in collaborative law; once an agreement is reached on all issues, the agreement is submitted to the court for approval and does not require the parties to attend a contested hearing. There are reasons both for and against using this approach depending on your specific situation. An experienced collaborative law attorney can explain these to you as well as answer any questions you may have about the process. Experienced Collaborative Law AssistanceAttorney Nick Richardson is trained in mediation, negotiation and the collaborative law process. He belongs to both state and federal collaborative law associations and is a fellow of the Collaborative Law Institute of Illinois. Not only will collaboration save you the time and money associated with litigation, it will allow you and your spouse to determine the outcome of your specific issues, whether they are related to your children or to the property accumulated during your marriage.
